This whole week I’ve been trying something different, a week long feature. Well not a weeklong, but a business week long. Either way, you get what I’m saying. I’ve had random facts, quotes chosen from the book that the author loved, links to author’s work, and finally an interview. This is that interview.
Seeing as how it was my first ever interview conducted, I tried doing research for questions to ask and not to ask. After a couple minutes I said f**k it, and decided to just have it go natural. We PM’ed each other, and the conversation/interview just took a life of its own. It helps that we’re friend and chat on a normal basis, but I’m still proud of it.
Anyways, this is my interview with Sarah Brocious. She has written More Than Scars, Provocation (these two were the ones I was prominently advertising), and The Wake Up Series which is now up to two books. Each one of these is romance, and I have only read More Than Scars (for now). Now that we’re caught up on all of that, let’s get the party started!

Me (Michael Anthony Benavidez): When I asked you for the books you'd like promoted, you chose More Than Scars and Provocation. I know that you also have a series out, so why those two specifically?

Sarah Brocious: Well, I have a soft spot for MTS...and Provocation is sweet an similar in the feel (contemp. romance) My other two books are PNR...and though I love them...I'm still growing in my confidence with them. More Than Scars is like a comfy blanket!

ME: For someone that sucks at knowing what's what (for example, me), what the hell is PNR? Haha. Also, how would you compare MTS and Provocation to the Waking Up series, as far as your growth in writing would go?

SB: Ha! PNR is paranormal Romance. As much as I put myself into my contemporary romance...there is something special about the Wake Up series. I wrote it in a really weird time in my life and it shows a lot of my insecurities and wishes. I am attached to the characters (and I'm struggling with the third and final book because I don't want to let go!)

ME: is that a hint at some climatic end that'll leave the reader in tears? haha I joke, no spoilers here, maybe-ish. Where would you say that you are now, having varied a bit in the romance spectrum with your current titles?

SB: Well the first 2 in Wake Up have pretty great cliffhangers...so I have to finish in a way that will make the readers happy! Currently, as a writer, I find myself pushing to get outside of the box. I am trying to incorporate more than just the HEA (happily ever after) into my story.

ME: That seems pretty natural, getting out of one's comfort zone. Would that be in the sense of stretching past the romance genre or trying out different forms of romance? Like baby steps before shifting into something completely different?

SB: Well, I am working on the short to enter for Anderson's T.OW.Y. entry. I am keeping true to my romance in a way...but it's a stretch for me because I'm used to happy sappy, ya know? Its help me grow incorporating another "feel" to my story.

ME: [For those that aren’t aware T.O.W.Y (Take One With You) is a book by Oak Anderson, and he currently has a competition out. Follow the link below for more information.]
That seems pretty interesting, and am very curious to see what you come up with for such a serious topic. So romance stories are very character driven, at least the ones I've read, and always seem to deal less with plot, but more with character building. What do you think is the more challenging aspect of writing romance, for you?

SB: Good question! It def is very much about the character connection. Of I'm not feeling it...my writing is BAD...it's just words on a page. So, you have to put yourself into that "person" It helps that I am a hopeless romantic

ME: it does kind of shows in your writing lol. While I've only read MTS, there is a lot of time put into developing the characters. I haven't read your other books yet, but was there any moment in any of your writing that you felt that your characters weren't growing into what you wanted them to be? Like they just weren't turning out as two characters that would seem like they were meant to be?

SB: Well, in the Wake Up series, there are 3 main characters. 2 of them I was certain I would love, and the 3rd, I thought would be easy to hate. He grew on me so much that he became my favorite of the series...and I have heard from several other readers that he is theirs as well. I'm a big believer in redemption...and his character remained "evil" but so damn loveable. It’s hard to describe and I am puzzled as to how it happened.

ME: Yeah it's easy for them to take a life of their own haha. Being someone who generally writes romance, is there any genre that you're interested in trying out? Or are you more interested in letting the stories take you where they go?

SB: Well, I think my niche is romance...so I hope to be able to add a twist to future writing. I am, however, ready to dabble in some non-fiction. Maybe dabble in some real life...my real life. It scares me to death, but I like a challenge.

Me: would this be something that you'll openly say is your real life, or let it go unnoticed as just another story, OOORRR (haha) do you mean that you'd dip a bit here and there from your real life into the story?

SB: That is the conundrum! I have some pretty amazing people I have been able to bounce ideas off of, and I'm pretty confident I have a plan on how this is going. But I don't want to give anything away. (Vaguest answer EVER...I know, sorry!)

ME: Vague is good, it keeps people wanting more! My mind seems to be running out of answers, so I think it's safe to assume that we did pretty good, and I would like to end with the popular, clichéd, and overused question: is there anything that readers should keep an eye out for in the near future? I do remember you wanting to turn MTS into a paperback, but i'm not too sure if that's a hush hush matter haha, or just anything that you are currently working on that you’d like to share.

SB: I am working on MTS being "physical". I am also working on a novella..."What Remains" contemp romance. It will be significantly shorter than my others, but I'm loving the characters...can't wait to share! Also...book 3 in the Wake Up series is nagging me to complete it! I am a busy girl!

MB: Thank you so much Sarah, both for you time, and patience with me despite springing all of this up on you last minute! My first interview ever, and I'm proud of the result, thank you very much!

I hope everyone enjoyed the interview, short and improvised as it was, and that you will check out Sarah Brocious’ books. Here are the links to her social media pages, as well as the amazon page to go ahead and buy. Also as promised, Oak Anderson’s T.O.W.Y page!
